Month of June loaded with fun things in Iceland

Festival of the sea maritime celebration in Iceland (Sjómannadagurinn) is an annual event in the first week of June, on the 5th of June. This is the day Icelanders honor the fishermen in Iceland and all those who make their living from the sea.
The day is celebrated with parades, arts and crafts activities, cultural events and activities for kids, food fairs, sailing competitions.
There is of course a lot going on in Reykjavik as well and the old harbour and the new one is filled with activites. Restaurants put on a special gourmet seafood feast for a reasonable price, sailing copetition, puffin watching, sailing trips, collection of funny fishes, life music and more fun things to do.
It is fun to celebrate the National day of Iceland with Icelanders on the 17th of June. This day is celebrated throughout the country and Iceland takes on like atmosphere with parades and street fairs as Icelanders celebrate their independence from Denmark, which occured in 1944.
Another interesting experience is to participate in the 2011 Midnight run that will take place on June 23th at 22:00 under the midnight sun. The location is Laugardalur, Reykjavik, by one of the citys wonderful geo-thermal outdoor swimming pool Laugardalslaug. All participant are invited to the swimming pool, hot tubs and steam baths after the race.
